YES: You can keep pet octopuses! Octopae. Whatever. Anyways, they require a large saltwater tank, live prey, and toys (Yes, TOYS)
Octopuses are very smart creatures, the same level of intelligence as dogs.
And they are so CUTE!
Many years ago I had the pleasure of feeding an octopus at an aquarium in Santa Barbara, California.
It was a fully matured pygmy octopus, so not very big, and once it took the fish, it wrapped around my hand. It took two of the aquarium people to get it off.
Yes, it was in all probability trying to eat me, but it was so CUTE! So on a sudden whim, I decided that in a few years, when I can afford a large enough saltwater tank and live food, I'm going to get one, and name it Nostradamus.
These things are so smart that you actually have to lock the lid of the tank to keep them from escaping, especially if you have another tank near by, because if you don't, they will crawl out of that tank and into the next one to eat whatever you have in it (presumeably you don't keep a grouper or a shark in there, in which case the octopus will become the food).
They are such cool little animals, I am actually excited to get one. So, I will spend the next few years becoming an expert on Octopae (octopuses) and I will be able to tell people: I have a pet Octopus!
